Supreme debate: Obama vs. Roberts
March 18, 2010It's not every day that our readers feel so strongly about an article that they file almost 1,500 comments, but that's what's happened as they debate the State of the Union dust-up between President Obama and the Supreme Court over its 5-4 ruling that corporations and unions have a First Amendment right to spend freely on political ads for and against specific candidates. Many, including the President, have been horrified by the January ruling and the money it potentially frees for campaign advertising. The issue was reignited when Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. was asked in Alabama whether the State of the Union address was the "proper venue" for the president to criticize the Supreme Court.
